Hello and Happy New Year from the Vision Development Centre!
As we step into 2025, we're excited to embark on another year of helping people improve their vision and unlock their full potential. Whether you’re a current patient, a referring doctor, or someone who’s just starting to explore what we do, this newsletter is for you.
At the Vision Development Centre, we offer vision therapy and rehabilitation for children and adults dealing with binocular vision issues and visual processing dysfunction. These conditions can have a profound impact on everyday activities—from reading and concentrating in school to excelling at work or sports. This year, we’re more committed than ever to helping individuals see the world—and their potential—more clearly.
What’s New at the Vision Development Centre?
In the spirit of the new year, we’ve been busy behind the scenes improving our services to better support you and increase awareness about binocular vision disorders. Here’s what’s new:
Article Publication: Our article was featured in the Ontario Brain Injury Association magazine, discussing visual considerations for returning to work after a brain injury. You can read the full article online here: Ontario Brain Injury Association Article.

Two Locations: For those who haven’t heard, we’ve expanded to a second location in Kingston. While initial assessments continue at our Napanee location, weekly vision therapy sessions are now available at both our Kingston and Napanee offices. We hope this expansion makes it easier for individuals to access the care they need.
Our Team: We’re excited to announce that we now have three dedicated vision therapists on our team: Amanda, Emily, and Lhamu. Each of them brings unique skills and experience to our practice. Learn more about our team on our website.
Collaborations with Local Professionals: We continue to partner with local optometrists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare providers to offer a more integrated approach to your care. If you've been referred to us by another healthcare professional, rest assured that we're working together to achieve the best possible outcomes.
What Conditions Can Vision Therapy Help With?
Vision therapy isn’t just about seeing 20/20; it’s about how your eyes and brain work together. Even if your eyes appear healthy, you might experience difficulties with eye teaming, tracking, focusing, or processing visual information. These challenges can impact reading, learning, sports performance, or even daily activities like using a computer or driving.
Here are some common binocular vision disorders that vision therapy can address:
Convergence Insufficiency: This is one of the most common vision disorders, affecting up to 1 in every 8 children. Symptoms include eyestrain, blurred or double vision, and difficulties with near tasks. Here’s a link to the printable Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey.
Visual Processing and Visual-Motor Disorders: Symptoms may include difficulty reading or tracking words on a page, poor hand-eye coordination, or challenges with retaining visual information.
Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI): TBIs can lead to conditions such as convergence insufficiency, oculomotor disorders, accommodative disorders, photophobia, visual-midline shift, or vestibular ocular and visual motion processing disorders.
Strabismus and Amblyopia: Vision therapy can help improve eye teaming and reduce binocular rivalry in strabismus and amblyopia. We offer a range of treatment options, including prismatic lenses and vision therapy.
Sports Vision Enhancement: Vision therapy can provide athletes with an edge by improving peripheral awareness, depth perception, and other visual skills crucial for sports performance.
In upcoming newsletters, we’ll dive deeper into individual conditions, discussing common signs and symptoms, diagnostic approaches, and treatment options.
